The "Gazetteer Of Dennis," is an original exploration of the facts and legends behind the various unique place names in Dennis and even who named them. Some have a historical basis – "who was Aunt Lonesome?" Some are comical – " where Was Knock-A-Knees Shoals?" Some are modern – "Where Is Snatch Alley?" and some are legendary – "Where Is Jack Sias ´ Rock And How Did It Get Its Name?"

This is the first edition of an illustrated, living book that explains the place names of the town of Dennis and its environs, based on the most scholarly research by the historians of the town. The public is invited to provide input or queries for future editions. The book contains many maps and three appendices that espouse many of the legends involved in the naming of various Dennis locations.
